Television evangelist says victim of extortion attempt

DALLAS (BestGrowthStock) – Texas-based television evangelist Marcus Lamb said that he was the victim of a $7.5 million extortion attempt over an “inappropriate relationship” several years ago with a woman other than his wife.

Lamb made the disclosure during a telecast Tuesday evening on his “Daystar” Christian television network. His organization later posted a statement on its website.

“Three people who were not involved in nor affected by their marital situation are now saying that unless Daystar pays them $7.5 million they will take the story the Lambs shared on the Tuesday broadcast to the news media,” the statement said.

During the broadcast, Lamb said his wife Joni had decided that he was “worth fighting for” and they had since submitted to intense counseling.

Joni Lamb said that before the alleged extortion attempt, the couple had been “privately healing” at the recommendation of spiritual counselors.

Lamb launched a Christian television station in Dallas in 1993 and Daystar now operates 70 stations across the United States, according to its website.
