Two charged with hate crime attack on New York imam

NEW YORK (BestGrowthStock) – Two men accused of shouting “terrorist” and “camel jockey” as they kicked an imam at a New York subway station were charged with hate crimes on Thursday.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s office named the suspects as Eddie Crespo, 28, from the borough of Staten Island, and Albert Melendez, 30, from Manhattan. They each face two counts of robbery in the second degree as a hate crime and one count of assault in the third degree as a hate crime.

The unidentified imam told police he was punched several times and the assailants ripped off his head gear and threw it onto the tracks in the early morning hours, prosecutors said.
