U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon to visit flood-hit Pakistan

ISLAMABAD (BestGrowthStock) – U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is expected to visit flood-hit Pakistan over the weekend, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

“The visit is about the flood situation. He will meet Pakistani leaders,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Abdul Basit told Reuters.

The floods, triggered by torrential monsoon downpours, have engulfed Pakistan’s Indus river basin, killing more than 1,600 people, forcing two million from their homes and disrupting the lives of about 14 million people, or 8 percent of the population.

The United Nations is increasingly concerned about water-borne diseases.
