U.S. consumer confidence rises in latest week -ABC

NEW YORK, April 6 (BestGrowthStock) – ABC News said on Tuesday that
its weekly index of U.S. consumer confidence rose in the latest
week toward its 2009 high, but Americans remain hesitant to
spend, holding the gauge near record-low levels.

The ABC Consumer Comfort Index ticked up to -43 for the
week ended April 2, from -45 the previous week.

It was the second time this year the index read -43; the
first time was an uncharacteristic 6-point rise in mid-March.
In 2010, it has only reached a higher figure in the week to
Jan. 3 when it stood at -41.

Survey recipients’ opinions of the nation’s economic state
and personal finances continue to fluctuate, keeping the gauge
in deeply negative territory. It still remains close to the -48
level, its average 2009 reading in what was its worst year on
record.

The index first hit an all-time low of -54 in the week to
Dec. 1, 2008, and then again in the week to Jan. 25, 2009. It
has not seen positive ground since March 2007.
