U.S.-Russia arms pact clears key hurdle in Russia

MOSCOW (BestGrowthStock) – Russian lawmakers gave preliminary approval to a landmark nuclear arms reduction treaty with the United States on Friday, supporting ratification of the New START pact in the first of three required votes.

The treaty, signed by Presidents Dmitry Medvedev and Barack Obama in April, cleared its first hurdle in Russia’s parliament with a 350-58 vote in the 450-seat State Duma. Lawmakers will return to the debate in January after the winter holidays.
