UK Stocks — Factors to watch on July 14

LONDON, July 14 (BestGrowthStock) – Britain’s FTSE 100 (.FTSE: ) index
is seen rising on Wednesday, on track for a seventh straight day
of gains, after upbeat results from U.S. chipmaker Intel Corp
(INTC.O: ) boosted investor sentiment.

The UK blue chip index looks set to add 32-34 points, or 0.6
percent, after it closed up 104.00 points, or 2 percent, at
5,271.02 on Tuesday, its highest close in over two weeks.

Intel Corp, the world’s top micro-chip maker, reported
results that beat expectations after Wall Street’s close on
Tuesday, with the company also giving a stronger-than-expected
Q3 sales forecast. [ID:nN12197658]

Asian stocks rose to a three-week high on Wednesday, led by
gains in technology issues in the wake of Intel’s results.

U.S. stocks (Read more about the stock market today. ) had rallied for a sixth straight day on Tuesday
after aluminium producer Alcoa (AA.N: ) late on Monday kicked off
the U.S. earnings season with stronger-than-expected results and
raised its estimate for global aluminium consumption.

Investors were waiting for the latest UK jobs report, due at
0830 GMT, for clues as to the health of the domestic economy.

UK claimant count unemployment is forecast to fall by 20,000
in June, after a 30,900 decline in May, while the ILO
unemployment rate is seen at 7.9 percent for the three months
ending May, in line with the prior three-month period, ending
April.

On the other side of the Atlantic, June retail sales figures
are due at 1230 GMT, and the minutes to the latest FOMC meeting
will be published after the London close at 1800 GMT.

No FTSE 100 companies will go ex-dividend on Wednesday.

UK stocks to watch on Wednesday:

RIO TINTO (RIO.L: )

The miner issued second-quarter output figures. Rio said it
sees 2010 copper production at 690,000 tonnes, and 2010 iron ore
output at 234 million tonnes. It said 2010 continues to shape up

Also, Rio has approved $200 million in funding towards a 50
percent expansion of its iron ore operations in Western
Australia, its first big project decision since Australia

BSkyB is in talks with a private Abu Dhabi investor to
launch a round-the-clock Arabic news service based in the UAE
capital, the Financial Times reported on Wednesday.

Ian King, chief executive of the defence group, has said he
is not expecting the Ministry of Defence to order the final set

The oil major on Tuesday delayed a critical test that will
determine if it can close a cap atop its ruptured Macondo well
that has leaked oil into the Gulf of Mexico for the last 12

Reports from the U.S. heightened speculation that Bank of
New York Mellon (BK.N: ), the global financial services giant, is
lining up a 5.5 billion pound, or 320 pence-per-share, cash bid

report said.

Bid speculation swirled around the temporary power supplier
as speculators again switched on talk of a possible bid from
