United, American cancel many flights to and from Europe

CHICAGO, April 18 (BestGrowthStock) – United Airlines, a unit of
UAL Corp (UAUA.O: ) canceled 56 flights to and from Europe on
Sunday and American Airlines (AMR.N: ) canceled 60, spokespersons
for the two airlines said.

“Unfortunately, the developments are not good for our
customers trying to get to and from Europe. The ash plume has
now affected travel to and from Barcelona and Rome. We’ve been
able to fly to and from these cities until today,” American
Airlines spokeswoman Andrea Huguely said.

“This is the third day that American has had to cancel most
of its European flights. We have canceled 60 flights to and
from Europe for today.

“As far as financial impact, it’s too early to tell. But
with that said, it’s never good for an airline — or its
customers — when you cannot fly your schedule for several days
— especially international routes,” Huguely said. American is
a unit of AMR Corp.

United Airlines spokeswoman Robin Urbanski said the airline
canceled 56 flights on Sunday in and out of Europe.
