UPDATE 1-A.O. Smith sees strong Q1 earnings; ups FY10 view

* Sees Q1 EPS $0.95 to $1.00 vs est. $0.68/shr

* Raises FY10 EPS view to $3.20 to $3.40

March 23 (BestGrowthStock) – Water heater and electric motor maker
A.O. Smith Corp (AOS.N: ) forecast first-quarter earnings above
analysts’ expectations on better-than-expected sales volumes.

Chief Executive Paul Jones said cost reduction efforts and
continuing strength in water heater sales in China will also
benefit the first quarter.

The company said it expects earnings in the range of 95
cents to $1.00 a share for the first quarter. Analysts on
average were expecting earnings of 68 cents a share, according
to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

The company also raised its full-year earnings outlook to
between $3.20 and $3.40 a share from its prior view of $2.95 to
$3.25 a share. Analysts were expecting earnings of $3.15 a
share.

Shares of the Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based company closed at
$49.88 Monday on the New York Stock Exchange.
