* Q2 unemployment rate falls from year ago and Q1

* Official figures questioned by some analysts
(Adds details, background)

BUENOS AIRES, Aug 23 (BestGrowthStock) – Argentina’s jobless rate
fell to 7.9 percent in the second quarter of this year from 8.8
percent in the same period of 2009 as the economy rebounds, the
government’s statistics agency said on Monday.

The figure, announced early by President Cristina Fernandez
a month ago, was also an improvement on the 8.3 percent
unemployment rate reported for the first quarter of this year.

Unemployment has fallen as Latin America’s No. 3 economy
recovers from the impact of last year’s global economic crisis.
The government foresees growth of about 8.5 percent in 2010.

Private economists accuse the government of releasing
overly optimistic data on unemployment, economic growth and
industrial output for political gain, while at the same time
under-reporting inflation.

Fernandez’s government has denied any tampering with
official statistics.
