UPDATE 1-Colombia says jobless rates fall in Sept vs yr ago

(Adds details)

BOGOTA, Oct 29 (BestGrowthStock) – Colombia’s urban jobless rate, a
more widely-used measure for the Andean nation’s unemployment,
fell to 11.5 percent in September from 12.9 percent in the same
month last year, the government said on Friday.

The less-referenced national unemployment rate was 10.6
percent in September versus 12.2 percent in the same month last
year, the DANE statistics agency said in a statement.

The jobless rate — which is one of the highest in the
region — is seen as a key challenge for the government of
President Juan Manuel Santos.

Santos has promised to create more than two million jobs by
bringing informal workers into the formal economy and driving
key areas of economic growth as the Andean nation enjoys a boom
in oil and mining investment.
