UPDATE 1-Colombia’s economy grew 4.4 pct in 1st quarter

(Adds details on revised growth)

BOGOTA, June 24 (BestGrowthStock) – Colombia’s economy grew 4.4
percent in first-quarter this year compared with a year ago
after registering growth of less than one percent for the
full-year 2009, the government said on Thursday.

The government expects the economy of Latin America’s No. 4
oil producer to grow at least 3 percent this year after
expanding a revised 0.8 percent in 2009, according to the DANE
statistics agency.

The Andean nation was hit by the global financial crisis
and also by a trade dispute with neighboring Venezuela which
saw its exports plummet more than 50 percent. But it was one of
the few countries in the region to grow last year.
