UPDATE 1-Ecuador trade deficit narrows in January

(adds details)

QUITO, March 5 (BestGrowthStock) – Ecuador’s Central Bank said on
Friday the South American oil exporter posted a trade deficit
of $17.9 million in January, down from a $403.1 million
negative balance in the same month of 2009.

Ecuador’s finances were hard hit last year by the world
economic slowdown, but it has started reducing the deficit due
to restrictions on some imports.

Last year’s trade deficit was $332 million, but Ecuador
expects a $265 million surplus by the end of 2010.
