UPDATE 1-Gas transmission line ruptures in Arkansas

* No fire, no injuries, repairs under way

* Impact limited to rural customers near Little Rock
(Adds detail, repairs under way, chickens threatened)

HOUSTON, Dec 29 (BestGrowthStock) – A six-inch natural gas
transmission line ruptured late Tuesday in rural Conway County,
Arkansas, northwest of Little Rock, Centerpoint Energy Inc
(CNP.N: ) said Wednesday.

There was no fire and no injuries were reported in the
incident that occurred in a public wildlife wetlands area near
Morrilton, local officials said.

The impact of the outage was limited to fewer than 200
rural customers who were without gas pending repairs,
Centerpoint spokeswoman Alicia Dixon said.

Repairs were under way and were expected to be completed
Wednesday, with gas service restored shortly thereafter, Dixon
said.

“Centerpoint informed me they had boosted pressure on the
line, and their control station realized there was a release
somewhere, basically out in the middle of nowhere,” said Conway
County Emergency Management Director Brandon Baker.

“The guess is when they raised the pressure, the pipe was
so old it busted,” Baker said. “There’s some chicken houses,
and there’s going to be some agricultural loss because when
it’s 39 degrees, chickens can’t survive very long.”
