UPDATE 1-Genesee & Wyoming Q2 carloads rise 17 percent

* Q2 traffic 217,029 carloads

* June carloads up 15 pct

July 14 (BestGrowthStock) – Short-line railroad operator Genesee &
Wyoming Inc’s (GWR.N: ) quarterly carloads rose for the first
time in a year, helped by a rise in metals, farm and food
products traffic.

Traffic in the second quarter rose 17 percent to 217,029
carloads, an increase of 31,248 carloads from a year ago.

Metals traffic rose to 24,836 carloads, up 10,220 from a
year ago.

Carloads in June were up 15 percent, as metals traffic grew
3,200 carloads due to a rise in steel shipments in the
company’s New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and southern regions.

Shares of the company closed at $38.51 Tuesday on the New
York Stock Exchange.
