* Gilead gets first option to license Yale inventions

CHICAGO, March 30 (Reuters) – Gilead Sciences Inc (GILD.O: Quote, Profile, Research)
and Yale University’s School of Medicine formed a research
collaboration focused on discovering new cancer therapies, they
said Wednesday.

The effort will span four years with an option to renew for
up to 10 years.

Gilead will provide $40 million in research support and
science infrastructure development in the first four years. The
company would provide a total of up to $100 million over 10
years if the time frame were extended.

Under the terms of the agreement, Gilead will have the
first option to license Yale inventions that result.

Yale and Gilead will develop a multidisciplinary research
program to search for the genetic basis and underlying
molecular mechanisms of many forms of cancer.
