UPDATE 1-Hertz seeks antitrust approval for Dollar Thrifty deal

* Says filed under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act

* Says it would face fewer hurdles than Avis

May 14 (BestGrowthStock) – Car rental firm Hertz Global Holdings
Inc (HTZ.N: ) said it filed with U.S. regulators for antitrust
approval for its potential acquisition of smaller rival Dollar
Thrifty Automotive Group Inc (DTG.N: ).

Dollar Thrifty is being wooed by both No. 2 car rental
firm Avis Budget (CAR.N: ) and the No. 3 Hertz, with Avis looking
to defend its market share and Hertz aiming to displace Avis.

Hertz said in a statement Friday that it would face fewer
antitrust hurdles on the Dollar Thrifty deal than Avis.

In a similar statement on Thursday, Avis said the antitrust
issues it would have to face are comparable to those of Hertz.

Hertz is seen to have the upper hand since it has just one
brand which caters to business travellers, while Avis Budget
already has a leisure brand that competes with Dollar Thrifty.

Shares of Hertz closed at $12.24 Friday on the New York
Stock Exchange.
