(Recasts first paragraph, adds IMF comments)

TEGUCIGALPA, July 16 (BestGrowthStock) – Latin America’s economy
could grow by as much as 5 percent this year, more strongly
than previously expected, driven by Brazil’s vigorous
expansion, a senior International Monetary Fund official said
on Friday.

“Brazil’s very strong growth, the biggest economy in the
region, stands out, as well as rapid growth from countries like
Peru,” Nicolas Eyzaguirre, head of the IMF’s Western Hemisphere
Department, told reporters.

The agency had previously projected 4 percent growth for
the region.

However, Eyzaguirre said that Central America could grow at
a slower pace than the rest of its peers.
