UPDATE 1-Knight Transportation Q3 profit misses estimates

Oct 20 (BestGrowthStock) – Truckload carrier Knight Transportation
Inc (KNX.N: ) posted a quarterly profit that missed estimates by
a penny, hurt mainly by higher salary and fuel expenses.

The company, which carries cargo such as consumer goods,
food and beverages, and paper products, has a fleet of about
3,700 tractors and 8,500 trailers, including 700 refrigerated
trailers.

For the third quarter, net income was $16.7 million, or 20
cents a share, compared with $13.1 million, or 16 cents a
share, a year ago.

Revenue rose 10.5 percent to $191.3 million. Salaries,
wages and benefits increased 3 percent, while gross fuel
expenses rose 14 percent.

Analysts on average had expected earnings of 21 cents a
share, before special items, on revenue of $189.2 million,
according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Shares of the Phoenix, Arizona-based company were down 26
cents at $18.07 Wednesday morning on the New York Stock
Exchange. They have fallen 16 percent since announcing strong
second-quarter results in July.
