UPDATE 1-Mexico Oct consumer confidence below expectations

(Adds background)

MEXICO CITY, Nov 5 (BestGrowthStock) – Mexico’s consumer confidence
index (MXCONC=ECI: ) fell more than expected in October, although
a seasonally adjusted measure of the reading (MXCONF=ECI: ) edged
higher, the national statistics agency said on Friday.

Mexico is limping back from its deepest recession in
decades and both measures of consumer confidence were sharply
higher than a year earlier.

But the country’s jobless rate remains well above
pre-recession levels, which is keeping consumers downbeat about
their ability to make big purchases.

The non-seasonally adjusted consumer confidence reading
fell to 89.2 in October from 91.6 a month earlier. Analysts in
a Reuters poll had forecast it would drop to 90.0.

The seasonally adjusted consumer confidence reading rose to
91.5 from 89.7 in September.
