UPDATE 1-NextEra Energy earnings rise, top Wall St

* EPS ex-items of $1.11 tops Wall St view of $1.06

* Revenue slips 6 pct to $3.59 bln, lag forecasts

NEW YORK, July 23 (BestGrowthStock) – NextEra Energy Inc (NEE.N: ),
the leading U.S. renewable energy operator, posted better than
expected quarterly earnings on Friday, boosted by strong
weather-related demand at its Florida utility.

The company, formerly called FPL Group, reported
second-quarter net profit of $417 million, or $1.01 per share,
versus $370 million, or 91 cents per share, in the year-earlier
quarter.

Excluding one-time items and changes in the value of
derivative positions, earnings per share were $1.11, topping
the $1.06 per share that analysts had on average forecast,
according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Revenue fell nearly 6 percent to $3.59 billion, compared to
analysts’ forecast of $3.89 billion.
