UPDATE 1-Suncor plans six-week oil sands upgrader outage

* Upgrader 2 down for six weeks

* To cut output by 35,000 bpd

* Syncrude, Husky also plan upgrader outages

CALGARY, Alberta, Aug 19 (BestGrowthStock) – Suncor Energy Inc
(SU.TO: ) plans to conduct six weeks of maintenance on one of the
upgrading plants at its Alberta oil sands operation starting in
September, the company said on Thursday.

Work on a Suncor’s Upgrader 2 will start Sept. 9, reducing
synthetic crude production by about 35,000 barrels a day,
spokeswoman Sneh Seetal said.

A coker unit, diluent heaters and a gasoil hydrotreater
will get the upkeep, the company said.

The oil sands operation has an overall capacity of about
350,000 barrels a day.

Upgrader 2 will be the target of more intensive work in the
second quarter of 2011. According to company presentation
materials, the cokers and utilities will be down for six weeks
starting in mid-April. That will cut output by 200,000 bpd.

Next month’s work adds to an already busy period of oil
sands and heavy oil processing plant maintenance.

Syncrude Canada Ltd has planned 45 days of maintenance on
one of its coker units, starting in September. That will cut
output by 100,000 barrels a day.

Husky Energy Inc (HSE.TO: ), meanwhile, plans to take its
82,000 bpd Lloydminster heavy oil upgrader down for upkeep this
month. That work is expected to last for two months.
