UPDATE 1-Teachers rejects Maple Leaf rights plan

TORONTO, June 30 (BestGrowthStock) – The Ontario Teachers’ Pension
Plan, one of the largest shareholder of Maple Leaf Foods Inc
(MFI.TO: ), rejected the Canadian food company’s shareholder
rights plan on Wednesday.

“We will vote against the rights plan if it is put to a
shareholder vote,” Neil Petroff, Teachers executive
vice-president for investments, said in a statement.

The pension plan also said it was considering all of its
options with respect to its Maple Leaf Foods shares.

Teachers’ owns 36.27 percent of the voting common shares,
calculated on a partially diluted basis, according to the
statement.
