April 4 (Reuters) – Analytics and security software maker
Verint Systems Inc reported better-than-expected
quarterly results, helped by an 8 percent rise in revenue, and
forecast strong revenue for fiscal 2012.

The company, which is majority held by Comverse Technology
Inc , posted a profit of 25 cents a share against a
loss of 68 cents a share a year ago. Operating margins grew by 2
percentage points to 67.2 percent.

Excluding one-time items, the profit was of 66 cents a
share.

Analysts, on average, expected a profit of 52 cents a share,
according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

In January, Comverse shed about 8 percent of its ownership
in Verint, according to regulatory filings. It now holds 56.4
percent of Verint, including convertible stock.

According to a Wall Street Journal report that came out
after the stock sale, Comverse will pursue a sale of Verint.

For fiscal 2012, Verint forecast a 7-8 percent revenue
growth, implying revenue of $777.7-$784.9 million against
expectations of $771.9 million.

The company, however, added that it expects the first
quarter to be significantly weaker sequentially, on typical Q1
seasonality.

Shares of the Melville, New York-based company were up about
2 percent at $37.20 in trading after the bell. They closed at
$36.61 on Tuesday on Nasdaq.
