UPDATE 2-Finland closes airports after brief opening

* Finland airspace closed again until Tuesday 1500 GMT

* Finnair cancels Tues. flights, says Wed. at risk
(Adds Finavia comments, Finnair flight data)

HELSINKI, April 19 (BestGrowthStock) – Finland’s airspace will
remain closed until 1500 GMT on Tuesday, airport manager
Finavia said on Monday, after a hole in a volcanic ash cloud
earlier in the day enabled air traffic to temporarily resume.

Finnair (FIA1S.HE: ) said it would cancel Tuesday’s flights
and that its fleet looked likely to stay on the ground on
Wednesday as well. [ID:nLDE63I2CC]

On Monday afternoon, Finavia temporarily opened three of
Finland’s key airports — Helsinki-Vantaa, Turku and
Tampere-Pirkkala — thanks to a gap in the ash cloud emitted by
an erupting Icelandic volcano last week.

Finnair said this allowed it to fly back a plane to
Helsinki from New York in the afternoon, with the plane taking
off back to New York before Helsinki airport closed again at
1700 GMT.

Finavia also closed the airport in Turku, in southwestern
Finland, at 1700 GMT, but Tampere-Pirkkala airport, north of
Helsinki, will remain open until 2100 GMT.
