BANGALORE, July 22 (BestGrowthStock) – Animal healthcare company
VCA Antech Inc (WOOF.O: ) posted a lower-than-expected quarterly
profit, as slower economic recovery hurt its animal hospital
and laboratory businesses, and cut its full-year profit view.

Shares of the company were down 8 percent at $21.20 in
after-hours trade. They closed at $22.95 Thursday on Nasdaq.

“I don’t think the numbers are really surprising, given the
kind of business they are in. It’s going to be tight for
sometime, till we see optimism in consumer sentiments towards
spending,” Morningstar analyst Debbie Wang said by phone.

For the second quarter, the company earned $38.3 million,
or 44 cents a share, compared with $37.7 million, or 44 cents a
share, in the year-ago quarter.

Revenue for the quarter increased 3 percent to $353.9
million.

Analysts on average were expecting the company to earn 49
cents a share, on revenue of $364.3 million, according to
Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Animal hospital revenue increased 2 percent to $267.6
million, helped by acquisitions, while laboratory revenue fell
0.2 percent to $83.0 million.

The company cut its full-year profit forecast to $1.43 to
$1.53 a share, from its prior outlook of $1.60 to $1.68 a
share.
