US STOCKS SNAPSHOT-Wall St flat before earnings

NEW YORK, April 8 (Reuters) – U.S. stocks were little
changed in choppy trading on Friday as strength in materials
and energy was offset by weakness elsewhere, and investors
awaited the start of earnings season next week.

The Dow Jones industrial average (.DJI: Quote, Profile, Research) gained 1.14 points,
or 0.01 percent, to 12,410.63. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index
(.SPX: Quote, Profile, Research) gained 0.64 point, or 0.05 percent, to 1,334.15. The
Nasdaq Composite Index (.IXIC: Quote, Profile, Research) dropped 1.18 points, or 0.04
percent, to 2,794.96.
