USDA recalls 72,000 pounds canned chicken salad

WASHINGTON (BestGrowthStock) – Approximately 72,000 pounds of canned chicken salad goods have been recalled after complaints about plastic in the product, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in a statement.

In a separate release, Bumble Bee Foods, LLC, said on Monday that the voluntary recall was by its supplier The Suter Company, Inc.

“We are working closely with The Suter Company to help expedite and effectively recall these products,” Steve Mavity, Bumble Bee senior vice president for technical services/quality assurance, said in the statement.

The USDA said Suter, located in Sycamore, Illinois, was “recalling approximately 72,000 pounds of canned chicken salad products that may contain foreign materials.”

The problem was discovered “after consumer complaints about finding hard plastic in the product,” the agency said.

The recall includes 8.2-ounce packages of “Bumble Bee Lunch on the Run Chicken Salad Complete Lunch Kit” and 3.5-ounce packages of “Bumble Bee Chicken Salad with Crackers,” USDA said.

The USDA release is available on the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service website http://www.fsis.usda.gov/News_&_Events/Recall_064_2010_Release/index.asp
