Venezuela Cardon cracker misses startup

CARACAS, May 10 (BestGrowthStock) – The catalytic cracker at
Venezuela’s 300,000 barrel-per-day Cardon refinery was still
offline on Monday, despite previous assurances it would restart
at the weekend, a source at state oil firm PDVSA said.

A fire at the end of April closed the 104,000
barrel-per-day cracker, which suffered another fire in March
only weeks after reopening following a 18-month period of
maintenance and expansion.

“We’re nearly there,” said an official at the 955,000 bpd
Paraguana Refinery Complex, which Cardon shares with sister
refinery Amuay — also currently offline for maintenance.

Although it paralysed the cracker, the April 24 fire was
quickly controlled without injuries, PDVSA said at the time.

PDVSA has repeatedly said it has enough oil products stored
to prevent the closures affecting exports or domestic demand.
