Virgin Atlantic mulls merger if BA-AA cement deal

LONDON, May 25 (BestGrowthStock) – Virgin Atlantic [VA.UL] would
consider merging with another carrier if British Airways’
(BAY.L: ) transatlantic tie-up with American Airlines (AMR.N: ) is
cleared by European and American regulators, it said on Tuesday.

“A merger is one of the options open to us if BA-AA gets the
go ahead,” a Virgin Atlantic spokeswoman told Reuters.

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DoT) earlier this
year gave its tentative approval to grant antitrust immunity to
American Airlines and four oneworld partners, including BA, to
form a global alliance.

BA said on Friday it hoped plans to form a commercial
alliance with American would be approved by the DoT and the EU
by this summer. [ID:nLDE64K07O]
