Wounded clerk dies after customer turns thief: police

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (BestGrowthStock) – A man who had the chance to be a good Samaritan to a wounded and dying store clerk instead stole some money and ran, police said on Wednesday.

They said they were searching for a man who came into the store as a customer early Tuesday morning, about three minutes after another man had shot the clerk and left with store merchandise, police said.

The scene was captured on surveillance cameras, said Darin Snapp, spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department.

Instead of coming to the clerk’s aid, the customer took money from the cash register, Snapp said. Only 20 minutes later did another customer come in and call police, but by that time it was too late.

The clerk “had a strong possibility (of surviving) had he received medical attention earlier,” Snapp said.

The original robber and the customer who fled were both at large as of Wednesday morning. Police had not released the name of the victim, but said he was a 24-year-old college student who had moved to Kansas City from Sri Lanka.
