SANTIAGO, May 7 (BestGrowthStock) – Chile’s inflation (CLCPI=ECI: )
rose 0.5 percent in April due to higher fuel prices while the
country’s trade surplus increased 18 percent that same month.

The consumer price index increase reported by Chile’s
National Statistics Institute followed a 0.1 percent increase
in March, when the worst quake-hit areas were not measured, and
was less than the median forecast of a rise of 0.6 percent in a
Reuters poll.

The inflation data did not refer to the impact of a
devastating Feb. 27 earthquake.

Chile posted a trade surplus (CLTBAL=ECI: ) of $1.362 billion
in April from $1.153.7 billion surplus in the same month a
year, the central bank said.

Exports totaled about $5.593.5 billion during April, up
27.4 percent from the same month a year earlier, while imports
rose 30.8 percent to about $4.231.5 billion.
