Your 6-Point Checklist While Test-Driving A Luxury Car

Whether you are purchasing a car from a private owner or a car dealer in Dubai, there are certain things that you need to consider when doing a test-drive – from premium of the insurance to the car’s specifications.

This list is required to be met before the purchase because safety is a priority and before you invest money, it is imperative to ensure that you are putting it in the right place.

Here is our checklist-

1. Car History

When purchasing a used car, ask the owner to provide the service book as well. Ensure that the service book is updated and check the number of times the car has been serviced.

Also, check if there were any major mechanical changes or repair work was done.

For a new car, ask the manufacturer about the service and related contract terms.

2. The Drive and Feel of the Car

Usually, to be courteous, people take the first ride as passengers. However, you should always test-drive the car on your own. As you are going to spend so much on a car, you must know what’s in it for you. After all, it’s you who is going to drive it.

So, you need to have a hands-on experience.  It will make sure if everything is fine before coming to a decision.

3. Keep the Sounds Off When Going For A Test-Drive

It is advisable that you turn off the car radio when taking the test drive. It will eliminate any kind of auditory interference. And, it will help you hear any unusual noises or any unexpected sound from the engine, exhaust or break while driving the car.

This goes particularly when you are purchasing a second-hand luxury and sports car in the UAE. However, it is applicable to a new car as well.

As far as the music system of the car is concerned, you’ll have all the time in the world to test it later. But the fact of the matter is, you’re buying a car, not a stereo system.

4. The Condition of the Tyres and Brakes

Usually, buyers tend to ignore the condition of car brakes and tyres for a lucrative deal on a used car, only to find out that the tyres and brakes of the car need to be replaced. This way, the expenditure is further increased.

So, to avoid such a situation, it is advised that you conduct a visual check of the brake pads and tyres. You can do this before or after you have taken the test-drive.

Checking them manually will help you to get a better perspective and you will able to decide if they need to be replaced or not. If this is the case, you can negotiate the selling price.

5. Ask Questions

There are three important questions that you need to ask when test-driving a car. First, you need to inquire about the service history. Make sure that it is reliable and that the servicing was done from a reputable workshop and at regular intervals.

Secondly, check the accident history of the car. If there is any, find out the severity of the damage and the reputation of the place from where the servicing was done

Do not forget to raise questions about the chassis number.

To verify the history, service contract, and warranty, you can check with the agency to verify the details. Do not hesitate to inquire about a car in which you are going to invest your hard-earned money.

6. Paint Job

It is not easy to identify the paint density of original and re-painted panels. It is important to look for them as they are an indicator of the accident history of a used car. Even your vehicle insurance policy will not cover that.

Not always can you get the facts from the car dealer and neither can you ask a vehicle insurance provider, as can only be done by the insurer or the last owner or the garage.

Usually, a paint meter is used to measure the paint density. Most garages and car repair companies use the same. You can get the pain density checked from them.
